AUGUST 1, 2016 (HOUSTON) – Houston Southwest Airport (AXH) today proudly announced the recent completion of the Les Morris Summer Flight Academy presented by the Black Pilots of America.
The BPA hosts the annual summer program to teach young students about opportunities in the field of aviation and encourage them to further their education. The SFA is open to students ages 15-19 that maintain a positive academic record and demonstrate an interest in aviation.
“We really enjoy hosting the annual Summer Flight Academy,” said Len Franklin, manager for Houston Southwest Airport. “The work the BPA does to introduce young students to the world of aviation is incredible.”
Once accepted, students go through 40 hours of ground school and 10 hours of flight school. All of the training is provided by highly skilled, volunteer instructors. High performing students even have the opportunity to complete a solo flight, with approval from their instructor.

The Black Pilots of America Summer Flight Academy seeks to excite young people about flying and their potential as a participant in the aviation field. BPA helps students translate excitement to academic studies that form the foundation of a productive career in aviation.
